Blackhart's Impromptu Kitchen Altar
Sometimes the best altar is the impromptu one.
HPS Blackhart set up this altar on her kitchen countertop late one evening after
the children had been put to bed and she needed some private time with her
Goddesses to get through a particularly rough time at her day job.
Only candles light the night and quickly create sacred space atop a freshly
cleaned cabinet.
The altar features a black candle (for protection) burning inside a glass angel
candle holder that resembles Blackhart and her favorite angelic protectors, a
JOY candle to bring in true happiness amid stress, a tea-light holder of Greek
Goddesses or muses (Wedgwood-a gift from her family), and a statuette of Athena.
Athena, a Goddess of Wisdom and War, is particularly important in this altar
arrangement. Athena is a superb strategist, choosing to remain at a
distance rather than dirty her hands as does Ares, the God of War. She
works behind the scenes to make things happen.
